The project is situated on the Dubai Marina area, at Jumeirah Beach (JBR). Part of the latest Meraas Holdings 1km long beachfront project ‘The Beach’, this 600m2 restaurant and shop, addresses a large urban plaza, while also maintaining great vistas towards the JBR high-rises. With a total of 160 seating indoors, and another 100 outdoors, the restaurant sports an open kitchen zone with large charcoal grill cooking facilities, meat display areas, as well as a meat cutting and processing butchery.
The project proposed the addition of an oak board lined metal structure, which forms a staircase to connect ground with upper levels, unfolds to wrap part of the ground floor dining area, and extends to become flooring and balustrade to the mezzanine level zone. The presence of this articulated construction which subtly animates the space is complemented with industrial floors on the ground floor, and sub-way tile lined walls in the kitchen and meat preparation areas. Chalkboard graphics decorate various areas of the restaurant, while large black and white ink graphics and text were hand drawn on the white ceramic tiles of the kitchen walls. Furniture, ‘Tom Dixon’ and Danish ‘Hey’ chairs on ground and aluminum ‘Emeco’ chairs on mezzanine, were complemented by custom build banquette seating and oak finish tables.
Lighting is subtle and directed in the single level areas, and grand and animated in the double height areas. The restaurant is equipped with state of the art HVAC systems, including an Ecology Unit that filters all kitchen air extracts through heat exchangers.
